Speaking is re a manifestation of Practice with the same ability to often push beyond the boundaries of one’s defined Focus without the aid of a Unison Platform. It is far more effective when amplifying a Focus, but the Speaking of Words does allow a Potential to widen the restrictions of their Focus. In truth, Words allow for far more significant changes than a Unison Platform, and these were needed in the first public use of the technique.

Purify went beyond simple excision. It was an act of power so great that it rivalled that of a star, wielded with the precision of a scalpel to burn away every atom of the ship which had so hurt the then-President Hawk and sent turmoil into the Web that bound the Unisonbound together. Since then, more Potentials have begun to learn to Speak, though only one other comes close to Amanda in their own skill. Vega Cant has learnt much of Words from Amanda, being the first Potential to be taught them by her and also one of the personal causes of the Metaconcert event. Amanda is more skilled, and more used to wielding such power, but Vega is capable of it if the situation requires it.

The idea of Speaking more than a word or two at a time is at present only theory. The idea of what a full sentence of Words might do is honestly somewhat frightening, but in a war for survival, sometimes such weapons must be considered. Conceptual warfare on this scale is very new to humanity, and brings with it a unique set of challenges. But the greatest of those is almost childishly simple; the nature of those who will wield the weapon.
